LGSPS champions free and accessible Quality Education in rural areas. Children in 150+ villages of the Nimar region impacted till March 2021.
As far as education is concerned, India lags behind. Based on the National Achievement Survey (conducted on November 13, 2017), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation also concluded that India has a high percentage of children with low learning outcomes. Only a quarter of third-grade students are able to read and understand simple stories.
As highlighted in previous ASER reports, the drive to get children back to school has resulted in high enrollment rates of over 96% in the last eight years in primary education, while improvements in reading outcomes and arithmetic ability remain modest.
In addition, a high percentage of students, both in public and private schools, are not performing at grade level. A student's grade level refers to his/her ability to cope with what she will be expected to do in that grade.
Providing Quality Education To All
Through our various projects, we provide quality education to needy children. Quality & inclusive education is of high priority to us as we strive to empower all children to become
informed, competent, compassionate, and global citizens.
Door To Door Outreach Programmes
LGSPS teams regularly visit people door to door across the region to advocate about the importance of education and its contribution in improving the lifestyle on a personal level and building the nation in general.
Life Skills Training Programmes
In LGSPS, we promote the life skills essential to living a quality life and eradicating gender bias. We help female students to deal with the difficulties they face in day-to-day life by teaching them to make informed decisions, solve problems in a creative and collaborative way, and build healthy relationships by effective communication.
Scholarship Programmes
We at LGSPS strive to ensure that no child is forced to drop out of school because of financial constraints. A scholarship programme has been offered by LGSPS to eligible students living in Nimar region from disadvantaged families since 2010. More than 1000 eligible scholars have been benefitted with this programme.
Skill Development Programmes
LGSPS has provided skill development training in the various areas which has helped children to be self-sufficient and generate employment.
We have the largest number of children in the world living in our country. Our goal is to facilitate critical medical treatment to those in need. This is our way of supporting all these needy children who have parents who can't afford the cost of hospitalization or who are underprivileged.
Underprivileged children who require emergency medical treatment are frequently tracked down by LGSPS by interacting with various medical specialty departments of various
hospital partners. Our organization also endorses the appeal for emergency medical assistance made by other hospitals, families of underprivileged patients, and non-profit organizations.
Ensuring Dignity and Safety by provision of clean toilets, wash facilities for girls and boys & educating about good hygiene. Several flagship programmes, including the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, have been launched by the government to improve sanitation. The majority of Indians in lower strata lack access to toilets. LGSPS has been leading the effort to promote clean water and toilet access.
"Usable Efficient Toilets" are needed especially in rural areas, covering schools and villages. In addition to building toilets, "Sustainability and maintenance" factors need to be addressed by creating awareness programmes. We urge people to help us become a “Hygiene focussed nation” by supporting campaigns and organizations involved in this domain.
In a world where water is an increasingly scarce resource, LGSPS aims to protect groundwater, surface water, and soil from sewage pollution, prevent hazardous pathogenic waste accumulation, and eliminate the problem of disposing of sewage sludge in landfills.
Through the ongoing health and education programmes, LGSPS continues hygiene education activities even after the construction of toilets is completed. Only if water, sanitation, and hygiene services are sustainable beyond the programme's duration is the programme considered a success. Engaging stakeholders and beneficiaries effectively is the only way to ensure the sustainability of the programme.
Way Forward:- The programme will be deemed successful when it achieves the following goals:-
1) There is no open defecation in a village, and all children and families have hygienically managed latrines.
2) The sanitation and handwashing facilities at all participating schools are hygienically managed and maintained.
3) Addressing absenteeism: Improved sanitation has reduced absenteeism and dropout rates,
especially among adolescent girls, through the construction of toilets and wash facilities in schools. Health education, menstrual hygiene, and economic empowerment are among the focuses of our awareness programme. As part of LGSPS's commitment to dignity and safety, clean toilets and washrooms are provided for boys and girls separately.
There are many factors that keep girls out of school including poverty, discrimination, and exploitation. As part of Beti Bachao - Beti Padhao, we promote girl education at the grassroots level. To achieve a better balance between genders our education programme aims to create equal opportunities for girls and boys.
Scholarships have been granted to more than 500 eligible girls enabling them to continue their studies despite their adverse financial situations. Our awareness programmes have been successful in changing the mind set of people in rural areas and as a result the rate of enrolment of girls in schools has increased over the years in the Nimar region.
